Few things get folks in the Piedmont (myself included!) as excited as NASCAR. And for the 2013 season, NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series will feature a new and, hopefully, more-competitive style of race car. The stars at the Triad's home team -- Richard Childress Racing -- told me that makes the fans this season's big winner.



From the campaign trail to Election Night in Charlotte and the swearing-in ceremony in Raleigh, no other Triad TV reporter more thoroughly covered Gov. Pat McCrory's journey to the Executive Mansion. And I was the only Piedmont reporter at the Capitol as McCrory officially took the reins.

This story contains an exclusive interview with a woman whose son and daughter-in-law were murdered in their home back in February. Their murders are still unsolved, and their family has opened an ice cream shop to memorialize them. In the only television interview this mother has granted, she shares a powerful message for the killer.



Here, I report on exclusive details following an officer-involved shooting. I was the only reporter to learn the names of two women who were inside a car with the shooting suspect and the fact both women had been jailed. They were later charged for their involvement in the officer shooting.
